Our Trusted Research Environments use a number of terms, explained here:

Trusted Research Environment | TRE | Trusted Research Environment on AWS (TRE) is a self-service research solution built to secure and analyse sensitive data, delivering the flexible tools and technologies to enable research conducted at scale. |
Amazon Web Services | AWS | The cloud computing platform on which the TRE runs. |
Service Workbench | SWB | Service Workbench on AWS is a cloud solution that enables us to provide secure, repeatable, and federated control of access to the data, tooling, and compute power that researchers need. See Service Workbench on AWS for more details. |
Elastic Compute Cloud | EC2 | Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud provides scalable computing capacity in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. These are the servers you create as workspaces. |
Simple Storage Service | S3 | Amazon Simple Storage Service provides storage. This is where our data is stored. |
Egress Application | Egress | This service controls taking results out of the secured environment using an approval workflow. |
Information Governance Lead | IG Lead | Someone authorised to approve taking results out from the environment. This can be Principal Investigator or someone they delegate that role to. |
